What about fees? At Pass It On, Inc. we design and fund plans to protect family businesses from the many financial disasters that can jeopardize their survival. Our strategies protect the business during the building phase, accumulate money on a tax-favored basis during the profit phase, and transfer the business at the eventual retirement of the owner. We also provide for the unplanned transfers that occur following an illness or death of an owner by developing a business continuation strategy for employees and family members.
In most cases we will arrange a no-obligation conversation during which we can find out about the business and the planning that has been done. We promise to honestly evaluate whether we can, in fact, be of help to them and if not, we will initiate no further contact.
We work with a large number of family-owned companies throughout the country so we are not tempted to try to prolong a relationship if there is no clear problem that needs my expertise.

What about fees? After nearly a decade of charging planning fees in every situation we decided to discontinue them in favor of a more flexible compensation arrangement that relies on the actual implementation of a plan. If we design a plan, and it includes the judicious use of life insurance, disability income or long-term care coverage, then we expect to implement the coverage with a quality carrier, on a basis acceptable to the client. We sell insurance the way a homebuilder sells lumber. The house is important, not the lumber. We get paid for expertise and to develop and implement a plan; the vehicle is the insurance and an insurance carrier pays your fee for you. Our clients are astute enough they can't be persuaded to buy something they don't really need - and we don't want them to.
If that arrangement is inappropriate or uncomfortable we would be happy to do the initial evaluation and recommendations on a negotiated basis. That might include a short-term retainer with a full refund policy based on satisfaction. We have been offered reciprocal services by client companies to include vacation home use, hunting trips, etc. If we become convinced that we can help you solve your succession problem, and if you agree, then we'll find a way to make it fair for both of us.
Another way we get paid is through introductions by current, satisfied clients to families and businesses that might actually need our services. The most important goal for us is to make our expertise and concern available to families that own businesses - Pass It On.

PASS IT ON INC FORGES INTO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY!!!
That’s right, the 20th century. By the beginning of the year 2000 many large companies had websites, efficient email communication and were offering customer service and information over the Net. Now we do, too! Here’s what is happening here at Pass It On, Inc.
Passitoninc.com – our website contains articles, diagrams and outlines that relate to our primary client needs: Business succession plans. Stock transfer plans for children/employees. Exit strategies for business owners. Business and personal life, disability and long-term care insurance advice.
We also offer insight into the latest effective means of optimizing your estate plan for the best family outcome and minimal estate taxes. Many of our clients are also interested in using charitable estate techniques to include their favorite charitable causes in their plan.
Email Communication – we’ve had email through an Internet provider for nine years, but it was less than ideal. Now you can reach us in two different ways. Business requests, questions and other communication can be sent to any individual first name at passitoninc.com. Personal messages can be directed to the first name at passitoninc.net. You decide-we’ll get it either way.
Newsletter – we’ve sent out fewer newsletters this past two years as we built a new building (see picture on the back), moved in, restructured our office staff and honored our commitment to family time. We plan to provide more frequent, less wordy messages and would like your input as to the most effective means. Please answer the questions below as to your preferred means of communication.
There are three ways to get our quarterly newsletter:
- By email – send us an email to info@passitoninc.net and
OPT IN to receive the newsletter electronically. (Your email address will be use only by our office.)
- By snail mail – we will continue to send you a hard copy unless we hear from you.
Finally, one thing hasn’t changed. We are committed to providing the best advice, soundest planning and highest-quality products that are appropriate for your situation and objectives. Some things don’t change – Pass It On.
